Introduction
Suõmmkar is a band that combines old, traditional Skolt Sámi music (leuʹdd, katrilli) with modern world music with folk, rock and pop influences.
The band consists of Skolt Sámi singers Anna Lumikivi-Lemmetty and Hanna-Maaria Kiprianoff. Suõmmkar also features Marko Jouste (mandolin, guitar), Pessi Jouste (violin), Uula Jouste (bass) and Elias Nieminen (drums, percussion).
Suõmmkar began performing in 2016. The band released their debut album "Suõmmkar" in August 2018 at the Ijahis idja festival in Inari. The second album “Peäccam da Paččjokk” will also be released on Ijahis idja in August 2026.
Suõmmkari's music resonates with great emotions and even dramatic moods, varying from lively quadrille revelry to poetic, sad ballads and melodic true stories that describe life in a straightforward manner, leuʹdds. The melodies are mainly in the minor key, but there is always a great power present in the music and lyrics that links the past, present and future together - a continuum that nothing can break.
